 Residency Position in Veterinary Anaesthesia
The Department of Companion Animals and Horses at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna offers a position for a resident in veterinary Anaesthesia (Supervisor: Univ.Prof. Dr. Yves Moens, Dipl ECVAA).

The University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna is a well-known academic teaching institution with excellent facilities for research and animal care. The Animal Hospital and University has a high case load, board certified specialists in numerous disciplines, state-of-the-art equipment and high quality supporting services.
The Residency Position in Veterinary Anaesthesia is a 3 years (optional 4th year) program designed to provide advanced clinical training in Veterinary Anaesthesiology, Analgesia and Critical Care. It is supported by three board – certified specialists in veterinary anaesthesia. This program will permit the resident to achieve the requirements established by the European College of Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA), for board certification. The resident thus is expected to study towards the European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia.
The Division of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Intensive Care offers anaesthesia and critical care service for all clinics and institutions of the veterinary university of Vienna. A major portion of the residency will be spent on clinical rotations to provide this service (including general emergency duties), daily rounds, journal clubs, seminars and clinical conferences. The resident will also be involved in clinical teaching of students and interns. The resident is further expected to produce and submit through research and clinical work at least two original manuscripts to a refereed journal prior to completion of the residency. Personal development time is provided for this and to study for boards.
Applicants are expected to have substantial experience in clinical veterinary medicine preferentially in both large and small animals. This can be e.g. a successfully completed rotating internship of at least 12 months duration or an equivalent experience. A proven special interest and knowledge of basic physics and physiology are an advantage. Further, candidates are expected to be good team players, capable of sustained efforts in stressful situations. They need to have good knowledge of English to pass the certifying exam and sufficient knowledge of the German language (minimum A1 Certificate) to communicate with clients and the team at the beginning of the residency.

In principle there is no reimbursement of expenses generated by the interview of the candidate.
Appointments will be made for 12 months with annual renewal based on satisfactory completion of the previous year.

The ENVA, School of Veterinary Medicine of Paris (Maisons-Alfort) is seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic veterinary surgeon with a passion for anaesthesia and pain management, to fill a three year (1+1+1 years) clinical position in our institution. The candidate will be part of the anaesthesia staff for small animal anaesthesia.
ENVA is a state-of-the-art small animal referral centre based at 2 km from Paris. The position will comprise a combination of small animal referral practice, opportunity for clinical research and participation in an informal undergraduate teaching programme. The successful candidate will be involved in the anaesthesia on-call rotations of ENVA’s teaching hospital (CHUVA). He/she will join a rapidly expanding team of specialist clinicians in a wide range of disciplines and dealing with a very high case load (anaesthesia, internal medicine, oncology, soft tissue surgery, orthopaedics, neurology, dermatology, cardiology, clinical pathology, diagnostic imaging).
This position allows the candidate to accumulate valuable experience in view of future participation in a residency programme.
The position will be available from September 2010 with a tax-free stipend of approximately
€18,000 per annum plus emergency and on call duty.
